I've just posted a summary of The Year in Perl 2005 on my O'Reilly Network weblog. What was significant to you this year?

To me, the most significant developments were Rails and the Perl responses to it. I, too, am very interested in Jifty - that Jesse's heavily involved is a big plus in our book and I can't wait to see the continuations in action. The ORM also looks a lot like ActiveRecord, which is good.

Other than that, it's all personal achievements - two articles on perl.com, a new job that I actually like, and a deeper OSS involvement all around. It's been a good year. :-)

My criteria for good software:
  1. Does it work?
  2. Can someone else come in, make a change, and be reasonably certain no bugs were introduced?

Pugs. Just have a look at what it is, and what it does. It's hard to believe that its first lines of code were written as recently as February.

To me, the most significant thing had to of been finally taking up perl for the first time back in mid-November. I'm sure it will still be significant througout 2006. Happy New Years! :)

I love the fact that Catalyst came out and is now coming along nicely.

A joy to program webapps again!!!
