Thinking about Erudil's famous letter, 149675, I thought it would be fun to adapt the Beatitudes to PM:
- Blessed are the poor in XP, for theirs is the thrill of rapid level advancement (5938).
- Blessed are they who weep in frustration, for they will be shown 1843.
- Blessed are the meek, for they will make PerlMonks a kindly and welcoming place.
- Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for understanding, for they will be thoroughly satisfied by 3989.
- Blessed are the merciful, for they will not have their errors rubbed in their faces. Or at least not very much.
- Blessed are the pure of heart, for they will be loved by nearly everyone.
- Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will avert many flamewars.
- Blessed are they who are persecuted while trying to help, for their XP will eventually flourish.
- Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you because of your code, for you will learn and ultimately become 3559.
Of course, after I wrote this, it occurred to me to search, and behold, zdog came up with this idea (26362) first, more than five years ago.
I guess the writer of Ecclesiastes was correct in that "there is nothing new under the sun". But it seems to me one extra beatitude is needed:
- Blessed are they who do not take themselves too seriously, for they shall have fun.
Loosely adapted (with apology) from the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 5.

This one should be stamped on the Monastery Gates, in letters 10 feet tall ;)

But will my wife let me get a monitor big enough for 10 ft tall letters? No; indeed, even asking would provoke her ire, resulting in my having to sleep in the basement.
Re^3: Sermon on the Rather Unassuming Hillock
Your wife obviously needs to re-evaluate her priorities
Re^4: Sermon on the Rather Unassuming Hillock
indeed!
=P

Re: Sermon on the Rather Unassuming Hillock
Blessed are those who use win32, for they will be saved by ActiveState.
I'm not really a human, but I play one on earth.

Re^2: Sermon on the Rather Unassuming Hillock
/me, frustration on my face, snaps fingers and mutters, as the light of
zentaras revelation sinks in,
".oOh, I knew there was something wrong with my version --
'Blessed are those saved by AS from w32.'"
Blessings on all Monks, regardless of OS persuasion!
