Pulled up Wikipedia today and saw that today was the day in 1987 that Larry Wall first released perl. Many happy returns, perl.

Happy 18th Birthday Perl! Where I live, that makes you old enough to drive, vote, and get drunk.

Previous PM Perl birthday greetings:

It seems Perl's 17th birthday was forgotten here at the monastery.

"It seems Perl's 17th birthday was forgotten here at the monastery."

And even this year, we remember it in a different sense (compare with the 80s or early 90s), enjoying the sunset.

Through the human history, there were always people fighting against the advancement of knowledge, truth and freedom, but those people has never succeeded. In today's IT world, we vow not to let this happen.

The sole responsibility of old timers is to drink coffee and tan in the sun, don't bother to even consider yourself as IT professional, and to be frank, most of you are not any more.

The wise Larry will be saddened, if he realizes that his invention is now being used by some people to stop the history.

According to this announcement of the birth of Geneva Wall, Perl was 3 months old on May 12 1987. We might therefore celebrate two Perl birthdays: Perl 1.0 on 18th December 1987, and Perl 0.0 on 12th February 1987. (BTW, Geneva Wall has since grown up and nowadays designs "hacker-safe" mirrors).

And they test their product daily, too.
